CT scanner not operable at NA hospital

first_imgDear Editor,The Public Health Minister Volda Lawrence was delivering her speech on Budget 2019 to justify that the Health Sector is good for Guyanese. What the Minister failed to inform the Guyanese people, is that despite having a good Health Sector the Government does not use the local health facilities, they access their healthcare overseas. What was even more disturbing is that the Minister held two photographs to justify that the CT scan machine is in working order at the New Amsterdam Hospital, but the truth is that the CT scan machine is not working, the machine is still installing and is not operable as yet.The Minister should ensure that information provided is accurate before it is presented to the National Assembly and the people of Guyana.Sincerely,Zamal Hussainlast_img read more

The Twitterfication of the Enterprise

first_imgYou might not recognize me here in the ReadWriteEnterprise channel and for good reason: I loudly and often proclaim that I don’t do enterprise. In my mind, enterprise software is a confusing and scary land full of unfamiliar terminology and labrynthine user interfaces. Thankfully, the enterprise world is fully aware that folks like myself exist and, even more, may have to one day spend time – on the clock, mind you – learning how to use this software. The answer? Bring aspects of consumer products like Facebook and Twitter to the enterprise solutions of the office. Bring the Home to the OfficeMost all of us – in the enterprise world or not – update our status, share photos, chat and even Tweet. Maria Ogneva, head of community at Yammer, the enterprise social network used by 100,000 organizations, says that a disconnect between consumer and enterprise software only causes frustrated and inefficient users.“Employees are also consumers, and when they get to work they expect their software tools to act the way their consumer tools do at home,” said Ogneva. “Because social sites and apps have become such a big part of our lives, the wider the disconnect between ‘work tools’ and ‘personal tools,’ the more frustrated we become.”Who wants frustrated employees (or wants to be one)? Nobody. The obvious solution, then, is for enterprise software to leverage familiar features.“While at work, we are even more crunched for time, and business apps need to help their users do their jobs with the least amount of friction and setup time. A modern business app needs to be easy to use […] and activate the right resources (knowledge and people) to help users get their jobs done,” said Ogneva. She points to Yammer’s use of status updates, a Twitter-esque follower/followee model, streams, hashtags and @mentions as ready examples for more friction-less, easy-to-adopt features for users brought over from the consumer side of things. Consumer Innovation Leads the WayMarcus Nelson, director of social media at Salesforce, says that changes in technology, such as the iPad and the move to the cloud, are also behind the consumerization of enterprise. He points to Chatter as Salesforce’s shining example of consumer technology showing up in the workplace. “Where Salesforce was relegated to the sales and service department, Chatter allows us to get into every department,” said Nelson, noting that 80,000 of Salesforce’s 92,300 customers uses Chatter. “Like Facebook, like Twitter, this information is coming to you. You see enterprise software going with things like feeds and profiles. The technological ability has improved so much in consumer apps that it makes sense to adopt that [in enterprise].”Ogneva also points to the functionality of feeds, as popularized by sites like Facebook or Tiwtter, as advantageous for enterprise.“Social design engages users by serving them personally and temporally relevant information, the right relationships and the right tools at the right time — whether it’s synchronous or asynchronous,” said Ogneva. For those of you in the enterprise software business, a page or two out of these books could certainly help onboard the clueless, chronically office-free, social media addicts like myself when the time comes. BJP catches Congress off guard in Rajasthan’s Mandawa

first_imgThe Bharatiya Janta Party has caught the ruling Congress off guard in Rajasthan by fielding expelled Congress leader Sushila Sigra for the Mandawa Assembly byelection. Two rival groups in the Jhunjhunu district unit fighting for dominance in the Jat-dominated seat have added to the misery of the Congress.Mandawa, falling in the Shekhawati region, was earlier considered a stronghold of veteran Congress leader Ram Narayan Chaudhary, who died in 2012, while Ms. Sigra was known to be a supporter of the rival camp of Jhunjhunu MLA Brijendra Ola, who is the son of Congress stalwart, the late Sis Ram Ola. The BJP expects to make a significant dent in the Jat vote bank with Ms. Sigra joining the party with a large number of her supporters.Ms. Sigra, pradhan in the Jhunjhunu panchayat samiti, was expelled from the Congress after the 2018 Assembly election for alleged anti-party activities. She joined the BJP last month. BJP’s Narendra Khinchar, who had won the seat in 2018, vacated it after his election to the Lok Sabha this year.BJP MLA from Lunkaransar, Sumit Godara, camping in Mandawa, told The Hindu that Ms. Sigra was known for strengthening the panchayat bodies in the region and had won excellence awards at the national level. “Moreover, the BJP is willing to accommodate leaders from different political backgrounds if they have selflessly served the people,” he said.Congress candidate Rita Chaudhary, daughter of Mr. Ram Narayan Chaudhary, had lost to Mr. Khichar in the 2018 Assembly election by a margin of 2,346 votes, though she had earlier defeated him in 2008. In her campaign trail, she highlighted the development works and drinking water projects undertaken during her 2008-13 tenure as the MLA.Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot addressed a public meeting to mark Mr. Chaudhary’s death anniversary at Jhunjhunu district headquarters on Friday. Political analyst Ashfaq Kayamkhani said the senior Congress leaders were unwilling to come to Mandawa because of the Jat community’s perceived unhappiness with the present regime.Mandawa Block Congress president Naresh Soni said the voters would trust Ms. Chaudhary for taking forward her father’s legacy and affirmed that there was a “sympathy wave” in her favour because she had lost by a thin margin last time. “People remember her achievement of successful implementation of the ₹3,200 crore Kumbharam lift canal project, which brought Himalayan waters to the remote villages and hamlets here.”As the Assembly seat witnesses a neck-and-neck contest between the two women candidates, the voters expect the rival parties to focus on development of the largely desert region, also known for its fascinating ‘havelis’ (mansions), in order to improve the health, nutrition and education levels of the local populace.last_img read more
