Westport Winery Creates Nirvana

first_imgFacebook0Tweet0Pin0 Submitted by Westport WineryWestport Winery has created its first ultra-premium wine called Nirvana. Made with Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah grapes from Mays Discovery Vineyards in the Horse Heaven Hills, this wine was blended by a select group of their wine club members and the Roberts family in March. The tasting notes describe this wine as “A magic, inviting red sunset that feels like fire.”In addition to crafting this this new blend, the Roberts have also changed the label for this wine which now features an underwater photograph of Carrie Roberts—the Roberts’ daughter and winery general manager—when she was learning to swim at about six months of age. This is a tip of the hat to the Nirvana album Nevermind. A portion of the proceeds from this wine benefits the Kurt Cobain Memorial Committee. It is recommended that this wine be paired with their Shut The Front Door featuring a Certified Angus Beef burger with bacon, ham, Swiss, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, avocado, greens, honey thousand and blackberry sauce on a grilled hoagie. As the tasting notes also offer a musical pairing it fits that this wine be enjoyed while listening to Come As You Are by Nirvana.A sculpture commemorating this wine was created by Tokeland artist Jeffro Uitto in 2009. It is a giant replica of the guitar Cobain designed for Fender that is made entirely of driftwood and logging gear.Westport Winery and Vineyards By-the-Sea Gardens with the unique outdoor sculpture garden, lavender labyrinth, musical fence, 9-hole executive golf course, giant chess set, outdoor scrabble game, and grape maze, is located on the corner of Highway 105 and South Arbor Road halfway between Aberdeen and Westport. Westport Winery was named Best of the Northwest Wine Tour in 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014.Westport’s award-winning wines are exclusively available at the winery.
